"Mad Clouds Jealous of the Moon among the Cassia"
[Poem One]
Blown and scattered still more
by the night breeze —
the cloud at the mountain's edge
that cannot reach the moon,
so famed for its brilliance.
[Poem Two]
Everywhere without shadow
shines the moonlight
in which one's thoughts find no dark corner;
the cloud that cannot reach it
clears away — alone.
(※ The author originally wrote "sarani" [utterly/completely] but revised it to "hitori" [alone] as shown by the deletion mark.)
[Poem Three]
However many times the promised autumn
comes around again,
the cloud midway in the sky
cannot reach the far-off moon.
