晏平仲（あんへいちう）楚（そ）に使（つかひ）して斉国（せいのくに）を辱（はづ）かしめざる事
斉（せい）の晏嬰（あんゑい）闘宝（とうほう）の事（こと）を謝（しや）せんがため楚国（そこく）に使（つかひ）す既（すで）に楚（そ）
に至（いたつ）て国中の風景（ふうけい）を見るに地霊（ちれい）人傑（じんけつ）まことに江南（こうなん）の美（び）
地（ち）なり進行（すゝみゆき）てみれば一大 門（もん）有（あつ）て掩閉（おほひとさ）せり傍（かたはら）に小 門（もん）あり
甚（はなは）だ窄（せば）く矮（ひく）し楚国の奏者（そうしや）出 迎（むか）へ引（ひい）て小門より入らん
とす晏子（あんし）心に我を慢（あなど）る事を知（しつ）てこれは狗竇（くとう）【左ルビ：いぬのあな】なり狗国（くこく）
の使（つかひ）を待（まつ）て入よといひければ遂（つい）に大門より入る朝（てう）に至る

なじるといへども晏子こと〴〵く返答（へんたふ）しければ皆（みな）閉口（へいこう）して

慢（あなど）るやと引て霊王（れいわう）に見（まみ）ゆ王 橘（たちばな）を賜（たま）ふ晏子 皮（かわ）共に食（しよく）す楚王大に

絵本写宝袋六之巻
晏平仲（あんぺいちゅう）が楚に使者として赴き斉国を辱めなかった事
斉の晏嬰（あんえい）が闘宝の事を謝罪するために楚国に使者として赴いた。既に楚に到着して国中の風景を見ると、地霊人傑でまことに江南の美地である。進んで行くと一つの大門があって閉ざされており、傍らに小門があり、とても狭く低い。楚国の案内役が出迎えて、小門から入らせようとする。晏子は心の中で自分を侮っていることを知って、「これは狗竇（犬の穴）である。犬の国の使者を待って入れ」と言ったところ、ついに大門から入ることになった。朝廷に至ると、数十人の儒臣・謀士が左右に並んで代わる代わる出てきて非難したが、晏子がことごとく返答したので、皆が口を閉ざして退いた。楚の上軍太夫伍奢（ごしゃ）が言うには、「晏子は斉の賢士である。なぜこれを侮るのか」と言って、霊王に引き合わせた。王が橘を賜ると、晏子は皮ごと食べた。楚王が大いに笑うと、晏子が言うには、「臣が聞くところでは、君主が果物を賜る時は、橘や柑橘は割かないと言われております」と。楚人はあえて辱めることができず、ついに聘礼を受け取り、晏子をもてなして帰らせた。

The Matter of Yan Pingzhong Serving as Envoy to Chu Without Bringing Shame to the State of Qi
Yan Ying of Qi went as an envoy to the state of Chu to apologize for the matter of Doubao. Having already arrived in Chu and observing the scenery throughout the country, he found it truly to be a beautiful land south of the Yangtze River, blessed with spiritual earth and outstanding people. Proceeding forward, he encountered a great gate that was closed, with a small gate beside it that was very narrow and low. The Chu guide came out to greet him and tried to have him enter through the small gate. Yan Zi, knowing in his heart that they were showing contempt for him, said, "This is a dog hole. Wait for an envoy from a dog country to enter through it," whereupon they finally allowed him to enter through the great gate. When he reached the court, dozens of Confucian ministers and strategists lined up on both sides and took turns coming forward to criticize him, but since Yan Zi responded to each and every point, they all fell silent and withdrew. Wu She, a high-ranking military officer of Chu, said, "Yan Zi is a worthy scholar of Qi. Why do we treat him with contempt?" and brought him before King Ling. When the king bestowed an orange, Yan Zi ate it with the peel. When the Chu king laughed heartily, Yan Zi said, "I have heard that when a sovereign bestows fruit, oranges and citrus fruits are not to be peeled." The Chu people could not bring themselves to humiliate him further, and finally accepted the diplomatic gifts, entertained Yan Zi, and sent him home.
