目の内の気高さが悪魔でさえ相手にするのが騒がしくて、なかなか見させないだろうと思って、胸の煙（恋情）はたちまち増していらっしゃった。正月の元日の日のことであるが、朝拝の公卿たちが参上なさった。帝は紫宸殿にお出ましになられた。梶木卿殿の女御の御姿を拝見申し上げようとして、御簾を引き上げてのぞかれると、姫君は日頃は泣きぼれて、いつとなく御顔も涙がこぼれていらっしゃったが、今は化粧も華やかにして、梅の匂いのする紅梅の色目の袿に萌黄色の単衣に濃い紅色の御袴で晴れやかにしていらっしゃった。

When someone lifted the bamboo blind to catch a glimpse of Lady Kajiki-kyō's daughter, the imperial consort, they saw that while the princess had been weeping sorrowfully day after day with tears constantly streaming down her face, now she was beautifully made up and resplendent in a kōbai-colored (plum-red) uchiki robe with the fragrance of plum blossoms, a light green hitoe undergarment, and deep crimson hakama trousers.
