赭鞭徐録云赤車使者 暮春十三日於
有二種小葉ノ者クチナ 塔沢元湯写
ワ上戸ト云大葉ノ者ヲ 帰亭後看色
葉水ト云 焉
此者箱根塔ノ沢塔ケ峯山
阿弥陀寺ノ梺ノ岩石湯元
橋ノ辺所々有之甚繁茂
ス岩水湿崖ヲ好ム其葉欅

赤車使者《ミツナ｜アカナ》

赭鞭徐録に云う、赤車使者には 暮春十三日に
二種あり、小葉の者をクチナ 塔沢元湯にて写し
ワ上戸と云い、大葉の者を 帰亭後に色を看る
葉水と云う
この植物は箱根塔ノ沢、塔ヶ峯山、
阿弥陀寺の麓の岩石、湯元、
橋の辺りの所々に生育し、甚だ繁茂
する。岩場の湿った崖を好む。その葉は欅
の葉に似て柔らかく、光沢があり
水気を帯びるため「葉水」と
佐州で呼ばれる。図に描かれているものと
似ている。今これを考察すると三種ある。一つ
は小さな草で、一根から数茎を生やす。
葉や花に異なるところはない。一種は大葉で
形状が大いに異なり、東江の所々に生育する。
私は『百花秋ノ部』第四帖に写している。
開花の季節が大いに異なり、小さな
草の方も春に小さな白花を開く。

The Honzo (Materia Medica) states:
Red chariot messenger 《Mitsuna｜Akana》

The Shabenjo-roku states that the red chariot messenger Late spring, 13th day
has two varieties: the small-leafed one called Kuchina sketched at Tozawa hot spring
wa-joto, and the large-leafed one called examined the colors after
"leaf-water" returning to the pavilion
This plant grows in various places around Hakone's Tozawa,
Mount Togamine, the foothills of Amida Temple,
rocky areas, hot springs, and near bridges,
where it flourishes abundantly. It prefers moist rocky
cliffs. Its leaves resemble those of the zelkova tree,
being soft with a glossy appearance and
moisture content, hence called "leaf-water" in
Sashu Province. It resembles what is depicted in illustrations.
Upon examination, there are three varieties. One
is a small herb that produces several stems from one root.
The leaves and flowers show no particular differences. One variety has large leaves
with significantly different form and grows in various places in Toko.
I have sketched it in Volume 4 of "Hundred Flowers, Autumn Section."
The flowering seasons differ greatly, and even the small
herb variety blooms with small white flowers in spring.
