鶴九百九十九年目亀九千九百九十九あゝ尚歯會
乗邨按此百首は後万歳集才蔵集其外の集
に見えたり是は分て秀逸を撰みたるにや蜀山人
とは蜀山兀出安房とといふ句より附？しとそ世には
四方赤良成は寝惚先生なと人のしれる所也
俗姓太田直次郎杏花園南畝といへるも

鶴九百九十九年目、亀九千九百九十九［年目］。ああ、尚歯会よ。
乗邨按：この百首は『後万歳集』『才蔵集』その外の集に見えている。これは特に秀逸なものを選んだのであろうか。蜀山人とは「蜀山兀出安房と」という句より名付けたのだそうで、世には四方赤良、また寝惚先生などと人の知るところである。俗姓は太田直次郎、杏花園南畝と言ったのもこの人である。

Jōson's note: These hundred poems appear in the "Goman'zai-shū" (Later Manzai Collection), "Saizō-shū" (Saizō Collection), and other collections. Were these selected as particularly excellent works? The name Shukusan-jin apparently comes from the phrase "Shukuzan kotsude Awa to" (Shukuzan, going bald, with Awa province), and he is known to the world by names such as Yomo no Akara and also Neboke Sensei (Master Sleepyhead). His secular name was Ōta Naojirō, and he who was also called Kyōkaen Nanpo was this same person.
