と申せば。一なは八文ほとといへり。やすき事を申て
奉りければ。其銭をもらひて。彼おひはぎし給
ひし所へ行て。かわらけ篭（かご）に銭（せに）をくゝり付。札（ふだ）を立
られけるは。先月（せんげつ）の大 晦日（つごもり）の夜の。土器（かはらけ）の代一貫八文。
但（たゞし）一 枚（まい）に付一銭つゝ帳（ちやう）けし給へと書く傍（そば）に一句
貧（ひん）のぬすみは偸盗戒（ちうだうかい）にはあらずいかんとなれば
恋（こい）の哥も。邪淫戒（じやいんかい）にあらざる証拠（せいこ）あり。慈鎮（じちん）
和尚とて貴（たつと）き聖（ひしり）の哥に
我恋はまつをしぐれのそめかねて
まくずがはらに風（かぜ）さはぐなり
と侍るとかや然ればとて。邪淫（しやいん）戒やぶりたる人
とは思ひがたそ我も貧（ひん）のぬすみなれば偸盗戒をやぶ
りたるとはえいふまじき也
と書（かゝ）れけるとかや。扨 引導（いんだう）に出給ひていわく
人は六 道（たう）銭（せん）とて六文出す。汝（なんぢ）は引導銭（いんだうせん）とて一貫八
文。さつしんが一ぢう。さては汝は人に一貫二文まされり。
十方に道（みち）あり。行たいかたへつつとゆけ。成仏（じやうぶつ）正（まさ）に
うたがひなし。是いかんとならば。有（あり）屋（や）？地獄（ぢごく）のさたも
銭がするとの給へば。みな人おどろきて、扨もおどけ
人やと感ぜぬ人はなかりけり。
【酒に酔て狂歌を読事 付 唐僧に答話の事】
『六』或僧（あるさう）一休の活機（くはつき）なる事を聞つたへて。いかほどなる
道徳（だうとく）あるとて。大徳寺（だいとくし）へ行て尋（たづ）ねけれ
ば。折ふし一休は
現代語訳
と申すと、「一縄（いちなわ）は八文ほど」と言った。安いことを申して差し上げたところ、その銭をもらって、先ほど追い剥ぎをなさった所へ行って、かわらけの籠に銭を括り付け、札を立てられたのは、「先月の大晦日の夜の土器の代金一貫八文。ただし一枚につき一銭ずつ帳面に記したとおり」と書いて、その傍らに一句
「貧しさゆえの盗みは偸盗戒にはあたらない。なぜかと言えば、恋の歌も邪淫戒にあたらないという証拠がある。慈鎮和尚という尊い聖の歌に
『我が恋は松を時雨の染めかねて 真葛が原に風さわぐなり』
とある。そうだからといって、邪淫戒を破った人とは思い難い。私も貧しさゆえの盗みなので、偸盗戒を破ったとは言えないのである」
と書かれていたという。さて引導に出かけて言うには、
「人は六道銭として六文出す。汝は引導銭として一貫八文。殺生が一丁。さては汝は人より一貫二文も多く出した。十方に道がある。行きたい方へずっと行け。成仏は確実に疑いなし。これはなぜかと言えば、有り金次第で地獄の沙汰も銭次第だ」とおっしゃったので、皆の人が驚いて、「なんとも滑稽な人よ」と感心しない人はいなかった。

ある僧が一休の機知に富んだことを聞き伝えて、いかほどの道徳があるかと思い、大徳寺へ行って尋ねたところ、折しも一休は

they asked, he said "About eight mon for one rope." When they offered this modest amount, he received the money and went to the place where he had committed the robbery earlier. He tied the money to the pottery basket and put up a sign that read: "Payment for pottery from the night of the last day of last month: 1 kan and 8 mon. Each piece at 1 mon as recorded in the account book." Beside it, he wrote a verse:
"Stealing out of poverty is not breaking the precept against theft. Why is this so? There is proof that love poems do not violate the precept against adultery. The venerable saint Jichin Osho wrote this poem:
'My love is like the autumn rain that cannot dye the pine—the wind stirs in the field of arrowroot.'
Just because of this, one would not think he broke the precept against adultery. Since my theft was also due to poverty, it cannot be said that I broke the precept against stealing."
So it was written. Then he went to perform the funeral service and said:
"People give six mon as rokudō-sen (six realms money). You gave 1 kan and 8 mon as indō-sen (funeral service money). That's quite sincere. So you have given 1 kan and 2 mon more than others. There are paths in all ten directions. Go straight in whichever direction you wish. Your attainment of Buddhahood is certain without doubt. Why is this so? Whether you have money or not, even hell's judgment depends on money." When he said this, everyone was amazed, and there was no one who did not admire him as "What a comical person!"

A certain monk heard tell of Ikkyu's quick wit and, wondering what kind of virtue he possessed, went to Daitoku-ji temple to inquire. It happened that Ikkyu was
