現代語訳
心意気も一通りで、変にとんだ高慢という医者がいた。
いかにも多くの無駄な神様をお抱えにして、西の国で百万石を取ったので、浮世を見下すこと日の見番のようであった。
けれども女には少し過ちがちな性分で、諸処へ身を寄せていた。
〽大通も「もっともらしいことを言って、今さら野暮になるのも惜しいものだ。こういうところを他で聞いたら、なお言うようだが、とんだ高慢だろう」
英語訳
There was a doctor of ordinary spirit but with extraordinary arrogance. He kept many useless deities in his employ, and having gained a million koku in the western provinces, he looked down upon the floating world like the sun from its watchtower. However, he had a weakness for women and was prone to minor indiscretions, frequenting various pleasure quarters.
〽A sophisticated man of the pleasure quarters said: "He speaks as if he knows what he's talking about, but it would be a shame to become unfashionable now. If others were to hear about such behavior, they would surely say what arrogant conduct this is!"
