疱瘡神は中国人も吉日を選んで、上に赤い布を掛け、赤い紙に神位を写し、下にその子の姓名を書く。清潔な部屋を選んで祭壇を建て、三牲（鶏・豚・牛の肉）を供えて斎儀を行い、菓子類を供えるという。心経一篇、その他種々の真言祝詞がある。これを略記する。神位の書き方は次の通りである。

そもそも疱瘡は小児にとって一大厄災であり、症状の変化が一刻半刻の間に起こり、生死が一時間半時間のうちに分かれる。虚実の判断は困難で、処方薬を誤りやすい。軽い症状が重くなり、生きるべき天然痘が死に至らしめる。そのため昔の人も、医学の治療では小児科が困難であり、小児の病気では痘瘡が最も困難だと言った。私の家は痘科を専門とする。そのため数百家の痘瘡に関する書物を読み、数千例の痘瘡症例を診察し、やや心に得るところがある。また度々難しい痘瘡で死に瀕するのを見てきた。

The smallpox deity - even the Chinese select auspicious days, hang red cloth above, copy the deity's position onto red paper, and write the child's name below. They select a clean room to build an altar, offer the three sacrificial meats (chicken, pork, and beef), perform purification ceremonies, and offer confections. There is one chapter of the Heart Sutra and various other mantras and prayers. This is abbreviated here. The way to write the deity's position is as follows.

Smallpox is a great calamity for children. Symptom changes occur within moments, and life and death are decided within an hour or two. It is difficult to distinguish between deficiency and excess conditions, and medicinal prescriptions are easily mistaken. Light symptoms become severe, and smallpox that should be survivable leads to death. Therefore, ancient physicians also said that in medical treatment, pediatrics is difficult, and among childhood diseases, smallpox is the most difficult. My family specializes in smallpox medicine. Therefore, I have read books on smallpox from hundreds of medical families and examined thousands of smallpox cases, gaining some understanding. I have also frequently witnessed severe smallpox cases approaching death.
