【釈名】鸐鶏（てきけい）〔『禽経』より〕、山雉（さんち）〔同上〕、山雉

李時珍曰く、「翟」とは羽が美しい様をいう。雉は原野に棲み、鸐は山林に棲む。ゆえに「山」の名を得た。大きいものは鷸（いつ）という。
