十種香（じすかう）
じすかう（十種香）といふこと。いつの ころ（比）より はじ（始）まりけんかし。おな（同）
じ どち（友）。ともにまとゐて。えならぬ にほ（香）ひを も（玩）てあそぶ
に。いと けう（興）ある わざ（事）となりぬ。されば ことく（異国）にゝも。かう（香）をもて
けうずるなる。ふる（古）き ふみ（書）に見えたり。香志（かうし）。香録（かうろく）。香譜（かうふ）。名香（めいかう）
譜（ふ）。などいふふみあるにてしるべきなり。

十種香というもの。いつの頃から始まったのでしょうか。同じ仲間同士で、共に座を囲んで、素晴らしい香りを楽しんで遊ぶことは、とても興味深い事となりました。そのため、外国にも、香を用いて楽しむということが、古い書物に見えています。香志（こうし）、香録（こうろく）、香譜（こうふ）、名香譜（めいこうふ）などという書物があることで知ることができるのです。
十種香の道において優れた書物は、香合式（こうあわせのしき）、志野宗信筆記（しのそうしんひっき）、雪月花集（せつげつかしゅう）、宗温名香記（そうおんめいこうき）、建部隆勝香之記（たけべたかよしこうのき）、十組香記（とくみこうのき）、暗部山（くらぶやま）、香道秘伝抄（こうどうひでんしょう）などがあって、香を聞く方法や調度まで詳しく

Ten Varieties Incense (Jikko)
The practice called "Ten Varieties Incense" - when did it begin? Among friends of the same circle, gathering together to enjoy and play with wonderful fragrances has become a most interesting pursuit. Therefore, even in foreign countries, the practice of enjoying incense can be found mentioned in ancient writings.
