当月二十四日昼時は快晴で暖かく、至極穏やかでございましたが、同夜四時頃大地震があり、信州中之条村の私の陣屋構内の練塀が所々で揺り倒され、その他陣屋近辺の村々では農家の手弱（貧しい）者は下屋回りが揺り倒され、厳しい震動をいたし、しばらく続いて漸く止まりました。それから少しの間を置いて絶え間なく震動があり、陣屋から北の方へ向かって雷鳴のような響きがあり、夜明けまでの間におよそ八十度余りも地震がありました。翌朝少々［数字不明］でしたが、今もって震動が止まず、支配所の水内村の村々では［数字不明］怪我や死人等もあった由でございますが、まだ訴え出ておりません。

Report on the Great Shinshū Earthquake of Kōka 4, Year of the Sheep
On the 24th day of this month, the daytime was clear and warm, extremely peaceful, but around 4 o'clock that night there was a great earthquake. In Nakanojō Village, Shinshū, the plastered walls of my jinya (local administrative office) compound were shaken down in various places. In addition, in the villages near the jinya, poor farmers had their attached buildings collapsed, experiencing severe tremors that continued for a while before gradually stopping. After a brief interval, continuous tremors occurred, with thunder-like sounds coming from the north of the jinya. Until dawn, there were approximately eighty or more earthquakes. The next morning was somewhat [number unclear], but the tremors have not ceased even now. In the villages of Minochi Village under my jurisdiction, there are said to be [number unclear] injuries and deaths, but no reports have been submitted yet.
