The lord abbot had the attendant with the three-legged tray bring the earthenware cup, and ordered the serving staff to remove it. As special delicacies were served, I approached his side while still wearing my sword, received them, withdrew from my seat, and made a request. When I was ordered to offer a return cup, I turned to the shitsuji (attendant)
and humbly declined, but when told again to do so, I stacked the earthenware cups and handed them to the serving staff. The serving staff placed the cups on the three-legged tray and presented them to the lord abbot, and I watched as the lord abbot took them in his hands, performed the appropriate courtesies, and when finished, he retired to his private quarters.

The serving staff placed the cups on the three-legged tray and presented them to the lord abbot, and I watched as the lord abbot took them in his hands, performed the appropriate courtesies, and when finished, he retired to his private quarters. After returning to my seat, the final course was served, and we finished with sweets and tea. The lord abbot appeared again and took his leave. At this time, I expressed my gratitude to the shitsuji, saying that receiving the meal and even sake cups showed such kindness that I felt truly honored. There were greetings conveyed from the elders, the shitsuji responded appropriately, and then immediately retired and dispersed. In the corridor, I repeatedly expressed my gratitude to the shitsuji and his deputy for their various kindnesses, and also made appropriate remarks of thanks for all their assistance. Takao Iga-no-kami and Hanawa Sōetsu escorted me to the reception room, where I expressed my gratitude to Iga-no-kami for his various assistance, also greeted Sōetsu, and took leave of both. In the corridor above the entrance, I tied up my long hakama, and was escorted to the formal entrance platform by the shitsuji and others who had come to greet me, exchanging appropriate courtesies. At that time, the shitsuji, junior priests, and attendants informed me about farewell gifts, and after returning within the gate compound, I went up to the main entrance's thin mat area still wearing my sword, and left the following message with the attendant:
"Today I received a meal and even sake cups, for which I feel truly honored. As I will be departing from this place shortly, I have come to express my gratitude for this. I have come to convey this message."
After finishing, I went to Iga-no-kami's official residence and left the following message:
"This time I, your humble servant, have successfully carried out my duties as representative and feel great joy about this matter..."
