地震で家蔵が大いに崩れ、長者は非常に心を痛めてどうしようかと思っていたところに、福神がやって来て長者を諭した。
大黒：これこれ、お前が先祖から貯めた黄金であるが、ただただ金の番人をしているだけではいけないものだ。世界の宝は融通が肝要で、ぐるぐる回っていなければならない。これ、このように蔵は古び家は崩れているとしても、なにも気を落とすことはない。有り金の半分は多くの人に施して、その陰徳の利益によってその身もますます安穏になり、家蔵屋敷はいくつでも後からできるもの。まず善言を先として人を助ける工夫を察しなさい。
恵比須：それそれ、大黒殿のおっしゃる通り。この節多くの困窮人へ施行を出す者が数多くあり、これらの人も子孫を思い、その身の家福は二の次にして、怪我過ちのないように、とわしらを信ずるまででも、ねえ。陰徳さえ施せば神は守るのが当たり前。なんと施しする気はないか。
餅丸：もうもう何事にもよりません。お指図次第。
心得ましてござりましょう。しかしこの金はこのまま積んでおきまして、少しの金を出しまして、鰻屋の店などに見えます、あの鯰を買い取り大川へ放しましてはどうでござりましょう。
大黒：それも言い分だが、なぜ金は出せないのだ。
恵比須：そうですとも。
餅丸：へえ、鯰めを放すよりは吊るしてやりましょう。

When the earthquake caused the wealthy man's house and storehouse to collapse greatly, the rich man was deeply distressed wondering what to do, when the fortune gods came and admonished him.
Daikoku: Listen here, this gold that you have accumulated since your ancestors' time - you cannot just be a guardian of money doing nothing else. The world's treasures require circulation; they must keep rotating around. Look, even though your storehouse is old and your house has collapsed, there's no need to lose heart. If you give half of your money to many people, through the merit of such virtuous deeds your own well-being will increase more and more, and houses and storehouses can be built again anytime. First, prioritize good words and devise ways to help people.
Ebisu: Exactly, exactly, just as Lord Daikoku says. At this time, there are many who give charity to the needy, and these people too, thinking of their descendants, put their own family fortune second and pray to us that there be no injuries or accidents. If you only practice virtue, it's natural that the gods will protect you. Won't you consider giving charity?
Mochimaru: Well, well, it doesn't matter what happens. I'll follow your instructions.
I understand. However, while keeping this money accumulated as is, if we take out just a little money and buy those catfish we see at eel shops and such, and release them into the great river, how would that be?
Daikoku: That's also reasonable, but why can't you give out money?
Ebisu: Exactly so.
Mochimaru: Hey, rather than releasing those catfish, let's string them up!
