大麻（たいま） 麻《割書：和名｜抄》 を《割書：同｜上》
茎の高さは七、八尺。表面は凹凸があり、下部の葉は一枝に七、八葉がつく。細長く鋸歯があって益母草
（めはじき）に似ている。上部に至ると一枝に三葉、或いは一枝に一、二葉となる。雄株と雌株がある。
雄株は花があって実を結ぶ。『釈名』に枲麻（しま）・牡麻（ぼうま）というものである。雌株は穂
をなして花を開き実を結ぶ。『釈名』に苴麻（しょま）・茡麻（しま）というものである。俗に
雌株は花がなくして実を結ぶというのは誤りである。およそ草木の中で花を開かず
して実があるという理はない。その花が細微で容易に見えないためである。

The stem reaches a height of seven to eight shaku. The surface is uneven, and the lower leaves have seven to eight leaves per branch. They are elongated with serrated edges and resemble leonurus
(motherwort). In the upper part, there are three leaves per branch, or one to two leaves per branch. There are male and female plants.
The male plant has flowers and bears fruit. In the "Shakumei" it is called shima (hemp fiber) and bōma (male hemp). The female plant forms
spikes, opens flowers, and bears fruit. In the "Shakumei" it is called shoma and shima. The common belief that
female plants bear fruit without flowers is an error. Among all plants and trees, there is no principle by which
fruit can exist without flowers opening. This is because the flowers are minute and not easily visible.
