「これは今度の地震について、多くの蔵や家屋を崩壊させたため、人々が憂い悲しんでいたところ、ようやく月も経ち日も過ぎたころに、ある日、かの鯰が凡人の姿をして町々を巡り歩いていた。『おや、おや、でかい、ここの家は崩れたなあ。おや、この蔵もひどく古くなったなあ。こんなにぶち壊すつもりではなかったのだが』と独り言を言うのを聞いて、周りから駆け出てきて『これこれ、お前は地震じゃないか』『何だと、地震だって？お前のおかげで可愛い妻子と別れることになった』『そうよ、親を殺した仇の地震、覚悟しろ』と、てんでんに得物を持ってきて、さんざんに打ちのめしたので、地震もいろいろと詫びたけれども、なかなか許してもらえず、地震は数か所の傷を受けて倒れてしまった。大勢がこちらから見ると、体中あざだらけなので、『これこれ、このあざを見なさい』『ええ、これはあざじゃない』『なぜ？』『いや、これは鯰が食べたものを…』

Catfish Tale
"Regarding this recent earthquake, many storehouses and houses were destroyed, causing people to grieve and lament. After months and days had passed, one day that catfish took the form of an ordinary person and wandered around the towns. 'Oh my, oh my, how big! This house has collapsed. Oh, this storehouse is also terribly deteriorated. I didn't intend to destroy things this badly,' it muttered to itself.
