飛去候間ある日五右衛門万次郎打連磯より上江狩り
廻り嶮岨を攀三四丁程登り候処広き平地
有之石を畳ミたる古井御座候方一里計の島と
相見へ申候後又承り候へハ是を無人島と申而日本ゟ
百余里東江相当り候由此ころ重助義帯下の病
差起り洞穴ニ平臥仕り傳蔵義も藤九郎少く相成候
而よりつかれ甚しく唯重助之看病のミいたし寅右
衛門万次郎五右衛門三人ハ貝をほり磯草をとり抔
仕り日々一同之食物を調へ申候もはや六月と相覚候
時分三日月を拝ミて二日計後の暁に万次郎洞穴
を出辰巳の方と相覚候方に遥に帆船を見付申候間
寅右衛門五右衛門も立出見やり候処大なる異国船にて次第ニ
近より候間面々声を揚破損の船屑ニ衣類をくゝり
付差招き漂流人有之躰を見かけさせ候処彼船ゟ
小船貮艘おろし島ニ向ひ漕来る笠を以招きなど
致し候ニ付大ニ悦ひ是よりも手ニて差招き磯近く相成
候処荒磯ニて舟を付がたく舟より衣類を頭へ巻つけ
およき来れと云様の手招いたし候見狎れ不申人故
気味あしく存候へ共いつ迄居へき島ならぬ事に候
間かの人之手招し如く舟ニおよき付申候彼人又外ニ連
ハ無之哉と云様之手招致し候間洞穴之方を指し
二人残り居候如手招仕候へ者外壱艘之舟ニ真黒き人を
のせ洞穴之方へ漕廻し申候此時傳蔵ハ洞之中にて
重助が看病致し罷在候處ふと洞之口へ鍋の

飛び去ってしまったので、ある日、五右衛門と万次郎は連れ立って磯から上へ狩りに
回り、険しい崖をよじ登って三、四町ほど登った所に広い平地が
あり、石を積み重ねた古い井戸があった。この島は周囲一里ほどの島と
見えた。後でまた聞いたところによれば、これを無人島と呼び、日本から
百余里東に当たるとのことであった。この頃、重助は下痢の病気が
起こり、洞穴に横たわって寝込んでしまった。伝蔵も藤九郎が少なくなってから
疲労が甚だしく、ただ重助の看病ばかりしていた。寅右
衛門、万次郎、五右衛門の三人は貝を掘り、磯草を取るなど
して、日々一同の食べ物を調達していた。もう六月と思われる
頃、三日月を拝んで二日ほど後の夜明けに、万次郎が洞穴
を出て、辰巳の方角と思われる方向に、はるかに帆船を見つけたので
寅右衛門、五右衛門も立ち出て見やると、大きな異国船で次第に
近づいてくるので、皆で声を上げ、破損した船の残骸に衣類を結び
つけて振り招き、漂流人がいる様子を見せかけた所、あの船から
小船二艘を降ろして島に向かって漕いで来た。笠を使って招くなど
したので大いに喜び、こちらからも手で差し招いた。磯近くまで来た
所、荒磯で舟を着けにくく、舟から衣類を頭に巻きつけて
泳いで来いという様な手招きをした。見慣れない人なので
気味が悪く思ったが、いつまでもいるべき島ではないことなので
あの人の手招きの通りに舟に泳ぎ着いた。その人がまた他に連れ
はいないのかという様な手招きをしたので、洞穴の方を指して
二人残っていると手招きで示すと、もう一艘の舟に真っ黒な人を
乗せて洞穴の方へ漕ぎ回した。この時、伝蔵は洞の中で
重助の看病をしていた所、ふと洞の口に鍋の
