より出火にて
神田明神近
辺残らず
焼る明神
は残る西北
の風はげしく
昌平橋焼落る是ゟ
明神下焼る佐久間町ニ而
留る一口は駿河台飛火し
今川橋辺不残類焼す
是より本町通日本橋江戸橋
落る永代橋辺霊岸島
鉄砲洲佃島又一口は通
四町中橋辺不残焼る
京橋竹河岸ニ而翌九ツ時ニ而
よふ〳〵静り人々安土の思ひを
なしにける

現代語訳

時は弘化三年丙午（1846年）
正月十五日昼八つ半時（午後3時頃）
より本郷丸山辺
より出火して
神田明神近辺
残らず
焼けた。明神社
は残った。西北
の風が激しく
昌平橋が焼け落ちた。これより
明神下が焼けて佐久間町で
食い止められた。一方では駿河台に飛び火し
今川橋辺りが全て類焼した。
これより本町通り、日本橋、江戸橋が
落ちた。永代橋辺り、霊岸島、
鉄砲洲、佃島。また一方では
四丁目、中橋辺りが全て焼けた。
京橋竹河岸でようやく九つ時（午後12時頃）に
ようやく静まり、人々は安堵の思いを
したのであった。

御公儀様（幕府）より御救い小屋を
お建てくださり、その上一人につき
弁当をくださったことは、まことに
御仁徳のほど有り難く、
この御代に生まれる人の

It was the third year of Kōka, hinoe-uma (1846),
on the 15th day of the first month, around the eighth hour of the day (around 3 PM),
when a fire broke out
in the Hongō Maruyama area.
The entire vicinity of
Kanda Myōjin Shrine
was burned, though Myōjin Shrine
itself survived. The northwest
wind was fierce, and
Shōhei Bridge burned and collapsed. From there,
the area below Myōjin burned, but the fire was
stopped at Sakuma-chō. In one direction, sparks flew to Surugadai,
and the entire area around Imagawa Bridge was consumed by fire.
From there, Honchō-dōri, Nihonbashi, and Edo Bridge
collapsed. The area around Eitai Bridge, Reigan Island,
Teppōzu, and Tsukuda Island. In another direction,
Yonchōme and the area around Naka Bridge were completely burned.
At Kyōbashi Takegashi, finally at the ninth hour (around noon),
the fire finally subsided, and people
felt relief and peace of mind.

Number of districts: over 580 residential districts

Regarding this great fire and its spread,
the honorable government established relief huts
and furthermore provided
meals for each person. This truly shows
the benevolent virtue [of the authorities], and how
fortunate are those
who live in this era.
