塵劫記 序
山城国葛野郡嵯峨村の人、吉田光由が記す。
近頃、ある人が私の粗末な門を叩いて訪ねて来られ、互いに眉を寄せて親しく語らううちに、袖の中より十八巻の書物を取り出して、その書名と序文・跋文を書いてほしいと求められた。私がこれを開いて読んでみると、まことに算法の神髄ともいうべき書であった。私が「これはどなたの著作ですか」と尋ねると、光由は答えて言うには、「私は若い頃より算法に癖（こだわり）があり、諸家の算法のうち煩雑なものは削り、簡略なものは詳しく補い、それらを集めて大成させました。これが私の著述するところです。この他にも自ら作った算書がありますが、

Preface to the Jinkōki
Written by Yoshida Mitsuyoshi, a resident of Saga Village, Kadono District, Yamashiro Province.
Not long ago, someone came and knocked at my humble gate. As we drew close in conversation, he produced from within his sleeve a work in eighteen volumes and asked me to write its title and preface and postface. When I opened and read through it, I found it to be truly the spiritual essence of the art of calculation. When I asked, "Whose work is this?", Mitsuyoshi replied, "Since my youth I have had a passion for mathematics. Of the mathematical works of various masters, I trimmed away what was redundant and elaborated upon what was too brief, gathering them together into a comprehensive work. This is what I have written.
