As this matter is recorded in the genealogical register (gofu) of Lord Munenori, it is omitted here. Once the above proceedings were completed, [the parties] proceeded to the Nishi-no-Maru (Western Citadel) to pay their formal respects to the Sōjaban (Master of Ceremonies), delivering the ceremonial greetings (gorei). Thereafter, they made the rounds of courtesy calls (mawarikin) to the Senior Councilors and Junior Councilors. 1. On the same day, the Senior Councilor in charge of the adoption matter (Goyōgakari Rōjū), Hotta Sagami-no-Kami 《marginal note: Masasuke》, sent the following written notice to the chief retainer (okarō) of the Hitotsubashi household: Regarding Lord Kogorō, he has been directed to become the adopted son of Matsudaira Hyōbudaifu-dono. You are hereby to be informed of this matter. 1. On the same day, a written directive issued by the Senior Councilor in charge of the adoption matter, Hotta Sagami-no-Kami 《marginal note: Masasuke》, to the Senior Inspector (Ōmetsuke), Ishikawa Tosa-no-Kami 《marginal note: Masatomo》, was circulated via the residence managers (rusui) of Matsudaira Mutsu-no-Kami 《marginal note: Munemura》 and Matsudaira Sagami-no-Kami 《marginal note: Muneyasu》: Since Kogorō has been directed to become the adopted son of Matsudaira Hyōbudaifu, on the morning of the 13th at the Hour of the Ox (around 10 a.m.), the following persons are to don formal hemp hakama (asa-kamishimo) and proceed to the Main Citadel (Honmaru) and the Nishi-no-Maru to offer congratulations to the Shogun and the Retired Shogun: hereditary vassals (fudai), high-ranking ceremonial families (kōke), those in attendance in the Kari-no-Ma (Goose Room), their respective heirs, Sōjaban and their heirs, those posted in the Kiku-no-Ma (Chrysanthemum Room) gallery, various troop commanders (ban-gashira), various unit commanders (mono-gashira), and officials of the rank of Hōi (informal court dress) and above. Note: Those who are ill or of young age are to send a messenger to the residence of the Senior Councilor Oki-no-Kami to convey their congratulations.
