...one box of fresh sea bream was presented and delivered to the Tsukiji residence (the Hitotsubashi lower residence). Note: As the Hitotsubashi main residence had burned down during the previous spring, Lord Kogorō was at this time residing at the Tsukiji residence. The Hitotsubashi chief retainer (okarō), Hosoi Hidano-Kami, came out to meet the messenger at the entry step (shikidai) and the anteroom (itanoma), guided him through the residence, and thereafter in the inner reception room (oku-ozashiki), Lord Kogorō was made to receive him in audience, and with his own hands bestowed a large dried abalone (onagaawabi) upon him. Note: At this time, the wet nurse (onme) was at his side and attended to the proceedings. When the above was concluded, in the front reception room (saizen no ozashiki), Hidano-Kami conveyed the reply, and Kageyu withdrew. Note: Although a direct reply (jikitō) would have been appropriate, owing to Lord Kogorō's young age, the reply was delivered through Hidano-Kami on his behalf. 1. On the same day, regarding the matter of Lord Kogorō's name, Lord Munenori submitted a written inquiry (oukagaisho) to the Senior Councilor in charge (oyōgakari), Lord Hotta Sagami-no-Kami 《marginal note: Masasuke》, through the resident keeper (orusui) Tsuda Kūemon 《marginal note: Morihiro》. As it has been commanded that Kogorō's name be changed, I intend to change his name as stated on the attached document. Respectfully submitted. 13th day of the 6th month Matsudaira Hyōbu-no-Taifu
