From Lord Okinomaru, a seasonal gift (doyo midsummer greeting) was sent to Lord Munenori via the personal attendant Tani Yagouemon, along with a customary offering of fish (o-sakana). Yagouemon was granted an audience in the Small Study (Shōshoin), where a direct response was given.
*Note: Matters of this kind continued to occur thereafter, but will not be recorded going forward.
On the same day, regarding the etiquette of expressing gratitude for the recently announced adoption, the residence manager (rusui) Ōtani Ichiuemon (Yoshitsugu) submitted the following inquiry document to the Senior Councillor in charge (goyōgakari rōjū), Lord Hotta Sagami-no-kami (Masasuke):
Memorandum
Item: Now that the adoption has been announced, when the Junior Fourth Rank Lord (Hyōbu-no-Taifu) presents his formal thanks, should Lord Okinomaru also send a representative (proxy) to offer thanks and present gifts?
Item: After Lord Okinomaru's move-in ceremony (watamashi/inkyō), should we inquire as to when father and son should jointly present their thanks? Furthermore, on the occasion of these expressions of gratitude, should it be arranged for retainers to be granted an audience on both occasions?
Item: Regarding the Senior Councillors and other officials, should gifts be presented following the same precedent as when expressing thanks upon returning to one's domain (sankinkōtai greeting)?
