奉御弘法大師御伝記上
抑四国讃州たどの郡白方屏風がうらとうじん太夫と□
猟師壱人候得しか此内にあこやと申女人まします是は唐土
大わうの御ひめみやにて三国壱の悪女たるに
御父大わうよりうつほ舟に入海中へながし
給ふ白方ひやうぶが浦につくとうじん太夫取
あげよきにいたわり奉る然れ共畢？のいんに至迄子
なき事をかなしみ津の国中山寺へ三七日のさんろう有て
男子にても女子にても子だね壱人あたへたび
給へとかんたんをくだきいのらせけれは三七日のまん
する夜の御むそふに西の海よりこがねの魚あこやの
たいなひへのみ給へと御むそふをこふむり給へて
悦び給ふ事かぎりをし御前へにむかひ三十三度
のらいはひ被成いそぎ我が国へ下向有て三とせ
と申にくわい人に入せ給ふもれ人間は九月半のた
いなひと申せ共御大師は旦ならぬ御人にてましませは
十三月と申に生れさせ給ふ其時の年号はほうき
五年きのへ丑の六月十五日寅の春天に生れさせ給ふ

弘法大師御伝記 上巻
そもそも四国讃岐国多度郡白方屏風ヶ浦に、藤人太夫という猟師が一人住んでいた。この家に阿古屋という女性がいた。この女性は唐土の大王の姫宮であったが、三国一の悪女であったため、父である大王によって空舟に入れられ海中に流された。白方屏風ヶ浦に着いたところを藤人太夫が引き上げ、よく世話をした。しかし結婚して長年経っても子がないことを悲しみ、摂津国中山寺へ二十一日間の参籠をして、「男子でも女子でも子種を一人お授けください」と肝胆を砕いて祈った。すると二十一日目の夜の夢に、西の海から黄金の魚が現れ、阿古屋の胎内に飲み込まれよという夢を見た。阿古屋はその夢を受け入れて喜んだことは限りなく、仏前に向かい三十三度の礼拝をなし、急いで故郷に帰った。三年目に懐妊した。普通の人間は九か月で胎内にいるというが、御大師は普通でない御方でいらっしゃったので、十三か月でお生まれになった。その時の年号は宝亀五年甲午の年、六月十五日寅の刻天にお生まれになった。

Biography of Kobo Daishi (Kukai), Volume 1
In the land of Shikoku, in Sanuki Province, Tado District, at Shirakata Byobu-ga-ura, there lived a fisherman named Fujin-dayu. In his household was a woman called Akoya. This woman was a princess of the great king of Tang China, but because she was the most evil woman in the three countries, her father the great king put her in an empty boat and cast her adrift on the sea. When she reached Shirakata Byobu-ga-ura, Fujin-dayu rescued her and cared for her well. However, even after many years of marriage, they had no children, which grieved them greatly. So they went to Nakayama Temple in Settsu Province for a twenty-one day retreat, praying earnestly with all their heart and soul, "Please grant us even one child, whether boy or girl." On the night of the twenty-first day, Akoya had a dream in which a golden fish from the western sea entered her womb. She accepted this dream with boundless joy, performed thirty-three prostrations before the Buddha, and hurried back to her homeland. In the third year, she became pregnant. While ordinary humans remain in the womb for nine months, the Great Master was no ordinary person, so he was born after thirteen months. The era name at that time was Hoki 5 (774 CE), year of the Wood Horse, and he was born on the 15th day of the 6th month at the hour of the Tiger.
