During the Bunji era (1185–1190), Mitsuhira was granted the post of shugo (military governor) of Mino Province (Nōshū) by Lord Yoritomo. Toki Hōki-no-kami Yorikiyo, the fifth-generation descendant of Mitsuhira, governed Mino Province during the time of Lord Takauji (Ashikaga Takauji). His legitimate heir was Daizen-no-daibu Yoriyasu; his second son was Akechi Shimotsuke-no-kami Yorikane; his third son was Ibi Dewa-no-kami Yorikatu; and his fourth son was Toki Mino-no-kami Yorimasa — all of whom continued their respective family lines. In the generation of Toki Mino-no-jirō Noriyori, the sixth-generation grandson of Yorimasa, the era was one of civil war (Sengoku), and neighboring provinces ceaselessly sought opportunities to encroach upon Mino. At that time, among the retainers of the Toki clan, there was a man called Saitō Yamashiro-no-kami [Annotation in red ink, upper margin] Tera-dono Yamashiro-no-kami Ryūki. The Toki clan members and their retainers alike lamented Noriyori's foolishness, and the people of the province all submitted to and followed Ryūki. Thereafter, Yamashiro-no-kami took Buddhist vows and... </translation_ja>
