[Right folio] ...was called Dōsan. His son, Yamashiro-no-kami Yoshitatsu, inherited the domain and governed Mino Province. Yamashiro-no-kami Yoshitatsu habitually set aside his legitimate heir, Uhyōe-no-daibu Tatsuoki, and instead doted upon his second son, Utanosuke Tatsushige, and his third son, Kenmotsu Tatsusada. Enraged by this, Tatsuoki, taking advantage of Yoshitatsu's absence on a hunting trip in the summer of Kōji 2 (1556), summoned both younger brothers under false pretenses and ordered his retainers Hineno Oribe and Nagai Sukeemon to kill them. He then took up position in the main castle at Inokuchi on Mt. Inaba and rose in revolt against his father. Although Saitō (Yoshitatsu) was caught off guard, his soldiers sided with Uhyōe-no-daibu (Tatsuoki). Oda Kazusa-no-suke Nobunaga of Owari, being (Tatsuoki's) son-in-law, offered to send reinforcements, but the distance was too great and the effort came to nothing. Yoshitatsu, with few troops, positioned himself at a place called Sagiyama and advanced against the castle at Inokuchi. Father and son engaged in battle, but in the end Yoshitatsu could not prevail, and on the twentieth day of the fourth month of the same year, Yamashiro-no-kami died in battle at the age of forty-eight, slain at the hands of his own son Tatsuoki. [Left folio] [Annotation in red ink, upper margin] The Akechi Clan Mitsuyasu (Buddhist name: Sōshuku), Hyōgonosuke of the Akechi clan and a retainer of Yoshitatsu, was the seventh-generation descendant of Akechi Shimotsuke-no-kami Yorikane of the Toki clan's branch lineage, and was the younger brother of Jūbee-no-jō Mitsutsugi. After his elder brother Mitsuna died young, Mitsuyasu established his castle at a place called Akechi in eastern Mino. After the Toki lord became a rōnin (masterless samurai), he served Saitō Dōsan, and likewise devoted himself loyally to Yoshitatsu. However, angered by the recent incident (Tatsuoki's killing of his younger brothers), he withdrew and confined himself to the Akechi manor. Upon hearing this, Uhyōe-no-daibu (Tatsuoki) appointed Nagai Hayatonosuke as general, with Nikaidō Izumo-no-kami, Tōyama Tonomo-no-suke, Ōsawa Jirōzaemon, Ibi Suō-no-kami, Funaki Daigaku, Yamada Jirōbee, and Iwata Shigadaifu as vanguard, and dispatched a force of over three thousand horsemen to attack the Akechi castle on the fifth day of the eighth month of the same year. Although Sōshuku-nyūdō held a domain assessed at ten thousand kan and defended with three hundred and eighty horsemen, he could not hold out, and at around the hour of the Monkey (approximately 4 p.m.) on the twenty-sixth day of the ninth month, he died in battle together with his younger brother, Jirouemon-no-jō Mitsuhisa. At that moment, Sōshuku-nyūdō...
