[Right folio]
[Zuiden-bō carried] a staff of one jō two shaku, reinforced with metal bracing and rounded at the grip, and with just these three mounted warriors, in a short time they struck down more than eighty men. Seeing this, Akechi [Mitsuhide] declared "Now is the moment!" and reported to Ōmi-no-kami [Kagemoto]. Thereupon, with Akatsuka, Yasuhara, Nosaka, Genda, Kawasaki, and Isobe at the vanguard, the gates were thrown open, spears were leveled, and they charged out in pursuit, pressing forward six or seven chō. Akechi again advised Shōrenga [Kagemoto] that "prolonged pursuit is of no benefit," and the conch-shell horn was sounded, whereupon they withdrew to the fortifications. The number of heads taken was recorded as more than seven hundred and fifty. After the defeat at Miyukizuka, [the ikki forces] surrendered to the encampment of the overall commander, Tosa-no-kami [Kageharu], at Tsukitsu; hostages were taken and [the Asakura forces] returned to Echizen. Rewards were distributed to those who had rendered distinguished military service in Kaga Province. The Magara father and son were granted an additional one thousand kan of domain in Konboku-tō district. To Akechi, Yoshikage presented a letter of commendation [kanjō], praising the excellence of his strategic counsel, along with a roan horse bearing a saddled and led [as a gift]. Other brave warriors also received rewards and stipends.
[Left folio]
Yoshikage's power and prestige grew with each passing day, and Kaga, Noto, and even Etchū Province came to comply with his will. Wakasa's Takeda Daizenno-daibu Yoshimune, being a kinsman, sent word through Asakura Nakatsukasa-daibu Kageharu, the deputy administrator of Tsuruga, expressing his wish to enter Yoshikage's service. Western Ōmi and Northern Ōmi also submitted, and Ichijōdani grew ever more prosperous.
To recount the origins of the Asakura clan from ancient times: Hirokage, the twenty-second generation descendant of Arajima, a child of Prince Omekome [Hyōmai-no-miya], who was a grandson of Emperor Kōtoku, was attached to Shiba Owari-no-kami Takatsune and came to Echizen Province around the Engen era [1336–1340]. He took up residence at Kuromaru Castle in Hongō, Banna district. For six generations down to Iekage, [the Asakura] served as retainers [baishin] of the Buei house [the Shiba clan]. Iekage's eldest son, Danjō-zaemon Toshikage, who had taken the religious name Eikin [Eirin], for meritorious service in battle received Echizen Province from the Kubō [Shogun] Yoshimasa, built a castle at Ichijō in Asuwa district, and on the twenty-first day of the fifth month of Bunmei 3 [1471] moved from Kuromaru Castle to Ichijō. And so forth.
