渡辺綱（わたなべのつな）【隅切囲みの中】図（づ）するは天延（てんゑん）四年四月十日の夜（よ）頼光（らいくわう）の
御 使（つかひ）に一 条（でう）大宮（おゝみや）へ罷（まか）る夜（よ）更（ふけ）ぬれば道（みち）の程（ほど）用心（ようじん）の
ため御 太刀（たち）鬚切（ひげきり）をはかせらるかくて一 条（でう）堀河（ほりかは）の
戻橋（もとりばし）にてあやしき女に行逢（ゆきあふ）おんななれ〳〵しく
われは五 条（でう）わたりまで行者（ゆくもの）なりおくりてたび
なんやといふ綱（つな）くせ者（もの）と思（おも）ひ馬（むま）より飛下（とびおり）安（やす）き
御事此 馬（むま）に召せとかきのせ行道（ゆくみち）にて彼（かの）おんな
恐（おそろ）しき鬼（おに）となり綱（つな）が髪（もとゞ）りつかんで提（ひつさげ）行（ゆく）綱（つな）は
さはがず鬚切（ひげきり）を颯（さつ）と抜（ぬき）空様（そらさま）に鬼（おに）が手（て）をふつと切（きる）
化生（けしやう）は行（ゆき）がた知らずなりにけり

【右丁】
渡辺綱の図は、天延四年四月十日の夜、頼光の使いで一条大宮へ向かう様子を描いている。夜が更けたので道中用心のため、御太刀「髭切」を帯びさせられた。そして一条堀川の戻橋で怪しい女に出会った。女はなれなれしく「私は五条あたりまで行く者です。送ってください」と言った。綱は怪しい者だと思い、馬から飛び降りて「お安い御用です。この馬にお乗りください」と言って馬に乗せた。道中でその女は恐ろしい鬼となり、綱の髪をつかんで連れ去ろうとした。綱は慌てることなく髭切をさっと抜いて、空中で鬼の手をすっぱりと切った。化け物はどこへ行ったか分からなくなった。

The illustration of Watanabe no Tsuna depicts the events of the night of April 10th in the 4th year of Ten'en era, when he was sent by Raikō as a messenger to Ichijō Ōmiya. Since night had fallen, he was given the sword "Higekiri" for protection on the road. At Modori Bridge in Ichijō Horikawa, he encountered a suspicious woman. The woman spoke familiarly, saying "I am going to the Gojō area. Please escort me." Tsuna thought she was suspicious, jumped down from his horse and said "That's easy enough. Please mount this horse," and helped her onto it. On the way, the woman transformed into a terrifying demon and grabbed Tsuna's hair to carry him away. Without panicking, Tsuna swiftly drew Higekiri and cleanly cut off the demon's hand in mid-air. The supernatural being disappeared, its whereabouts unknown.
