天喜（てんき）五年の冬（ふゆ）源頼義（みなもとのよりよし）は官軍（くわんぐん）千八百 余騎（よき）にて安倍貞任（あべのさだたふ）が四
千 余騎（よき）と奥州（おうしう）鳥海（とりのうみ）にて戦（たゝかひ）給ふおりふし寒風（かんふう）烈（はげし）く降雪（ふるゆき）
道（みち）を隠（かく）し往来（わうらい）も絶（たへ）て日数（ひかず）を過（すご）しければ御方（みかた）兵粮（ひやうらう）尽（つき）精力（せいりき）
労（つか）れて戦（たゝかひ）利（り）あらず主従（しう〴〵）僅（わづか）に七 騎（き）と成（なつ）て漸々（やう〳〵）鎮守府（ちんじゆふ）に

将軍（しやうぐん）の命（めい）に応（おう）ず志（こゝろざ）し節（せつ）を立（たつ）るに在（あ）り身（み）を殺（ころ）すことを顧（かへりみ）ず
と至信（ししん）を尽（つくし）申けり諸軍勢（しよぐんぜい）是を聞（きゝ）感涙（かんるい）を流（なが）さずといふ者（もの）なし
それより頼義（よりよし）と力（ちから）を合（あわ）せ武略（ふりやく）戦功（せんこう）をはげまし終（つい）に貞任（さだゝふ）宗任（むねたふ）

清原武則と鎮守府将軍源頼義が会合した出来事
天喜五年の冬、源頼義は官軍千八百余騎で安倍貞任の四千余騎と奥州鳥海にて戦った折、寒風が激しく雪が降って道を隠し、往来も絶えて日数を過ごしたため、味方の兵糧が尽き精力も疲れて戦いに利がなく、主従わずか七騎となって、ようやく鎮守府に帰還した。その後、出羽国の清原真人武則に加勢を求めた。武則は快く引き受けて、その軍勢一万余騎を率いて当国栗原郡営が岡にて将軍と会合した。まずここで諸陣の押領使を定められた。その時、武則は皇城を拝し天地に誓って「臣はすでに子弟を出陣させ、将軍の命令に応じます。志は節義を立てることにあり、身を殺すことも顧みません」と至心をつくして申し上げた。諸軍勢はこれを聞いて感涙を流さない者はなかった。それより頼義と力を合わせ、武略戦功に励み、ついに貞任・宗任を滅ぼした。その時は康平五年八月九日であった。 終

The Meeting Between Kiyohara no Takenori and Chinjufu-shōgun Minamoto no Yoriyoshi
In the winter of Tenki 5 (1062), Minamoto no Yoriyoshi fought with his imperial forces of over 1,800 cavalry against Abe no Sadatō's forces of over 4,000 cavalry at Torinoumi in Ōshū Province. During this battle, fierce cold winds and heavy snowfall obscured the roads, cutting off all travel for many days. As a result, his allied forces ran out of provisions, became exhausted, and gained no advantage in battle. With only seven riders remaining of his lord and retainers, they barely managed to return to the Chinjufu headquarters. Afterward, he requested military assistance from Kiyohara no Mahito Takenori of Dewa Province. Takenori readily agreed and led his forces of over 10,000 cavalry to meet with the general at Tamuro-ga-oka in Kurihara District of this province. First, they appointed the various military commanders (ōryōshi) here. At that time, Takenori bowed toward the imperial palace and swore to heaven and earth: "I have already sent forth my sons and brothers to respond to the general's command. My intention is to uphold loyalty and righteousness, without regard for my own life." He spoke with utmost sincerity. All the military forces who heard this were moved to tears without exception. From then on, joining forces with Yoriyoshi, they encouraged military strategy and battlefield achievements, and finally destroyed Sadatō and Munetō. This occurred on the 9th day of the 8th month of Kōhei 5 (1062). End.
