The measurement of (Mercury's) movements is extremely difficult. As for faint and hard-to-see fixed stars, such as the Pleiades (Mao, 昴星), tradition has recorded them as "seven stars," but this was established solely based on what could be seen with the naked eye. In reality, there are thirty-seven stars. The white nebulous object at the center of the four stars of the Ghost Mansion (Gui Xiu, 鬼宿) has traditionally been called "white vapor," but in reality it contains thirty-six stars. As for small stars, those such as the southern star in the Ox Mansion (Niu Xiu, 牛宿), the Fish Star to the east of the Tail Mansion (Wei Xiu, 尾宿), the legendary star (伝説星), and the southern star of the Beak Mansion (Zi Xiu, 觜宿) are all classified as sixth-magnitude stars, and beyond these, the stars are too faint and small to be seen. When one looks through a telescope, many stars can be seen arranged in rows at great distances. For example, what appears as one star south of the Beak Mansion actually consists of twenty-one stars of varying sizes. It becomes clear that the fixed stars are innumerable.
