《割書：雁かしやう〳〵あたりに来てゐるが何ことぞとうした事で心をとめす、等閑にかへる事ぞしやう〳〵風景は水みどりに沙あきらかに｜おもしろひ景しやになぜすてゝゆく事ぞ、琴の曲に帰雁操といふがあるゆへとりあはせていふ｜○此ところは帝舜のきさき娥皇女英の身をしつめたる所なればその神れいが二十五弦の琴を夜月にたんじて｜あらうならば其御うらみにたへずして却てあとずさりにとぶであらふ》

瀟湘からなぜつまらなく帰ってくるのか
水は青く砂は明るく両岸に苔が生えている
二十五弦の琴を夜の月に弾けば
その清らかな恨みに堪えられず
雁はかえって飛び帰ってくる 帰雁
《解説：雁が瀟湘のあたりに来ているが、なぜか心を留めることもなく、つまらなそうに帰っていく。瀟湘の風景は水が青く砂が明るく美しい景色なのに、なぜ捨てて去っていくのか。琴の曲に「帰雁操」というものがあるので、それと関連付けて詠んでいる。○この場所は帝舜の妃である娥皇と女英が身を沈めた所なので、その霊が二十五弦の琴を夜の月に弾いているならば、その恨みに耐えきれずに雁はかえって後ずさりして飛んでいくだろう》

Why do you return so carelessly from Xiaoxiang?

[Commentary: The geese come to the Xiaoxiang area, but for some reason they pay no attention and return carelessly. The Xiaoxiang scenery has blue water and bright sand - such beautiful scenery, so why do they abandon it and leave? There is a zither piece called "Returning Geese Melody," so this poem is composed in connection with that. ○This place is where Emperor Shun's consorts Ehuang and Nüying drowned themselves, so if their spirits were playing the twenty-five-stringed zither in the moonlit night, the geese would be unable to bear their resentment and would fly backwards in retreat.]
