右の心はむかしさがの大かくちにたき
どのとて是ありけるを見てよめりさしも
いかめしくつくられたるたきどのもはや
むかしになりてあとふりつゝものさびしき
さまにてあるもひさしけれどその名ば
かりはなほ今の世につたへてよく人の
きゝしりてあるはよくよく名だかかりし
ところなりといへり名こそながれて
は名ののちの世につたはるをたき
のえんによりていひしなり

滝の音は絶えて久しくなりぬれど名こそ流れてなお聞こえけれ
五十五番
この歌の意味は、昔嵯峨の大覚寺に滝殿というものがあったのを見て詠んだものである。あれほど立派に造られた滝殿も、もはや昔のこととなって跡が古びて物寂しい様子になっているのも久しいけれど、その名前だけは今なお現在の世に伝えられてよく人々が聞き知っているのは、本当に名高いところであったからだと言われている。「名こそ流れて」は名が後の世に伝わることを、滝の縁によって言ったものである。

The meaning of this poem is that it was composed upon seeing what was called the Waterfall Pavilion (Takidono) at Daigakuji Temple in Saga long ago. Even though that magnificently constructed Waterfall Pavilion has become a thing of the past, with its remains weathered and presenting a lonely appearance for quite some time now, the fact that its name alone is still transmitted to the present world and well known to people shows that it was truly a very famous place. "The name flows on" refers to how the name is transmitted to later generations, expressed through the metaphor of the waterfall's flow.
