現代語訳
「恋女房染分手綱」の浄瑠璃に道中双六を用いて、美少人（美少年）の心を数百里にも動かしたのは、もっともなことであるなあ。
ここにその姫君より百代目の口（血筋）が十六代ほど抜けに当たり、「馬之丞殿」と申し上げる方は、大層愚鈍なお身で、文武とは文福茶釜のことに極めて、両刀とは蛇の頭の二つあることで、まことに芸道について無闇に鉄砲を放ったようなことで、いらっしゃったが、「可愛い子には旅をさせよ」という金言で、大殿の思し召しにて「旅をさせよ」とのことであったが、先例に任せ、また「旅は嫌々」とのお定めがあった。
家老六十○○太夫は、初め昔の道中双六を持ってお勧めし、中○○人、いずれも利口そうな顔つきにて退出する。

Using the board game "Dōchū Sugoroku" (Travel Sugoroku) in the jōruri play "Koi Nyōbō Somewake Tedzuna" moved the hearts of beautiful young men across hundreds of miles - this is quite understandable.
Here, someone who is about sixteen generations removed from the hundredth generation descendant of that princess, called "Umanosuke-dono," was extremely dull-witted. To him, "bunbu" (literary and military arts) meant only the "bunbuku teapot" (a folk tale), and "ryōtō" (two swords) meant having two heads like a snake. He was truly like someone shooting a gun randomly in the dark when it came to the arts.
However, following the wise saying "Send your beloved child on a journey" and the lord's wishes to "let him travel," though there was also a precedent and rule that "travel is reluctant."
The chief retainer, sixty-something Dayū, initially recommended using the old-fashioned travel sugoroku, and the middle-ranking retainers, all with intelligent-looking faces, withdrew.
