○活所翁桜譜に庭桜出たりにして草の

跋桜品後
正徳中吾 先大人撰七十二品而桜
品與焉而吾之不良廃其業而不講

○活所翁桜譜に庭桜が出ているが、草のような形をしている。花は小さく千弁で、熊谷桜に似ている。また桜の一種であり、その花が開くことは桜と同じだとある。これは間違いである。
○桜海棠 沈立海棠記に杜海棠とある。
この余は省略する。
桜品の後に跋す
正徳年間に我が先君（父）は七十二品を撰し、桜品もその中にあった。しかし私の不才により、その学問を廃して講究せず、加えて日々怠惰になってしまった。その書は束ねて閣に置かれ、錯乱して整理されないまま放置された。古語に「その父が耕したのに、その子は種を播くことを肯んじない」とある。以前私はこれを読んでも馬の耳に念仏であったが、今では恥じ入って思うことがある。
英語訳
○In the Cherry Compendium by the Old Man of Kasho, the garden cherry appears, but it is grass-like in form. The flowers are small and thousand-petaled, resembling the Kumagai cherry. It also states that it is a type of cherry and that its flowers bloom in the same way as cherries. This is incorrect.
○Cherry Begonia (Sakura Kaidō) In the Record of Begonias by Chinryū, it is called Chinese Begonia (To-kaidō).

Postscript to Cherry Varieties
During the Shōtoku era, my late father compiled seventy-two varieties, and cherry varieties were among them. However, due to my inadequacy, I abandoned that learning and did not pursue it, and moreover, I became increasingly negligent day by day. That book was bundled and stored away, left in disorder and uncollected. An ancient saying goes: "The father tilled the field, but the son refused to sow the seeds." Previously when I read this, it fell on deaf ears, but now I feel ashamed and reflect upon it.
