當夏質素倹約之儀ニ付觸達ニ相成候
事ニ候者候得共市郷之内ニ者不弁之輩も
有之別而婚禮等之節互ニりきみ合候處ゟ
畢竟御制服相用不都合之次第も有之

儀聊無之質素倹約相守驕奢ニ不
相流抹市郷御奉行於手許ニ尚又屹と
取究様町御奉行御郡代之面々へ申聞方
之儀可有了簡旨御月中申達候事

存寄申談申上候様被仰付御渡成候御

現代語訳
今夏、質素倹約の件について触達が出されたことですが、市郷の内には理解していない者たちもおり、特に婚礼などの際にお互いに張り合うところから、結局のところ御制服を用いずに不都合な事態も生じているやに聞いております。特にけしからぬことですので、今後このような事は一切なく、質素倹約を守り奢侈に流れることのないよう、市郷奉行の手元においてなおいっそう厳しく取り調べるよう、町奉行・郡代の面々へ申し聞かせる件について了解すべき旨を、御月中に申し達したことです。
卯年十一月
右は辰年二月二十二日、松江氏へ郡中組頭・庄屋の意見を相談して申し上げるよう仰せ付けられ、お渡しになられた御趣意書の写しです。
英語訳
Regarding the proclamation issued this summer concerning frugality and economy, there are still some people within the urban and rural areas who do not understand properly, and particularly during wedding ceremonies and such occasions, they compete with each other in displays of wealth. Consequently, it appears that inappropriate situations have arisen where official dress codes are not being followed. This is particularly deplorable, so in order to ensure that such matters do not occur at all in the future, that frugality and economy are observed, and that people do not indulge in luxury, instructions were given during the month to strictly investigate these matters at the hands of the urban and rural magistrates, and to inform the town magistrates and district governors accordingly.
