六月十四日亥の刻より大地震して今に其響き止されは
皆人驚き怖さるものなし京大坂堺辺は同し様子なれ
とも奈良郡山木津笠木辺は夥しく崩あれて死人も有よし
伊賀伊勢江州も大に震動すとの噂なりそれにつ□#1て

律師に聞し講活を思ひ出し経論を披て見れは如＿レ左

地震の話
六月十四日の夜十時頃から大地震が起こり、今もその余震が止まないので、皆が驚き恐れている。京都・大坂・堺の辺りは同じような様子であるが、奈良・郡山・木津・笠置の辺りは激しく崩壊して死人も出ているとのことである。伊賀・伊勢・近江国も大いに震動したとの噂である。それについて種々の巷の話が入り乱れて、人々は混乱している。そこで私は先年円満寺の律師に聞いた講話を思い出し、経典や論書を開いて見ると次の通りである。
文殊菩薩宿曜経の二十八宿による暦によると、六月十四日は斗宿、十五日は女宿、十六日は虚宿である。

Tales of Earthquakes
From around 10 PM on June 14th, a great earthquake occurred, and since the tremors have not stopped even now, everyone is startled and frightened. The areas around Kyoto, Osaka, and Sakai are in similar condition, but in the vicinity of Nara, Koriyama, Kizu, and Kasagi, there has been severe collapse with reports of fatalities. There are rumors that Iga, Ise, and Omi provinces also shook greatly. Regarding this, various street rumors are spreading in confusion, and people are bewildered. Therefore, I recalled a lecture I heard from a Buddhist priest at Enmanji temple in previous years, and when I opened the sutras and treatises, I found the following:
According to the calendar based on the twenty-eight lunar mansions in the Manjushri Bodhisattva Sukuyō Sutra, June 14th corresponds to the Dipper constellation (Tō-shuku), the 15th to the Girl constellation (Jo-shuku), and the 16th to the Void constellation (Kyo-shuku).
