【本文】
此心は秋の野のくさ木にひしと
つゆをきわたしたる所をにはかみ【「に」とあるところ。】
あらきかぜのふきたつればその
つゆばら〳〵ととびちりてさながら
いとにてつらぬきとめぬる玉のみだ
れちることくにて見とることいふ心也
風のふきしきる事なりつらぬき
とめぬとは糸にて玉をつなぎ
とめたる事なり

【本文】
この歌の心は、秋の野の草木に露がびっしりと降りて、それが一面に広がっている所に、突然激しい風が吹き起こると、その露がばらばらと飛び散って、まるで糸で貫き通して留めていない玉が散り乱れるように見える、ということを表現した歌である。風が激しく吹き続けることを表している。「つらぬきとめぬ」とは糸で玉を繋いで留めてあることを意味する。

【Main Text】
The heart of this poem expresses how, when dew has settled densely on the grasses and trees of the autumn fields, and a sudden fierce wind arises, the dewdrops scatter in all directions, appearing just like pearls that have not been strung and secured on a thread, dispersing in disorder. It describes the wind blowing intensely and continuously. "Tsuraniki tomenu" means pearls that are connected and secured with thread.
