逼塞

一、寛保二年戌年八月、御医師細井玄養の拝領知を取り上げられ、御擬作を申し付けられ逼塞となる。

一、享保十七年子年七月十六日、御奉行江口次郎兵衛・酒井六郎右衛門が逼塞となる。この時、福井御目付栃屋半右衛門から松岡御目付へ知らせの書状が以下の通り松岡御用留にある。

「一筆啓上いたします。昨日十六日、稲葉采女殿がお宅にて申し聞かされたことは、江口次郎兵衛・酒井六郎右衛門は以前から遠慮をしておりましたが、この度両人とも役職を取り上げられ、拝領知のうち五十石ずつを召し上げられ、大御番組を申し付けられ逼塞することとなりました。右両人へは次の席にて申し渡すよう御書付をお渡しいただき、こちらでも同役中立ち会いのもとで両人に申し渡しました。この件についてお知らせいたします。両人の組下代は千本藤左衛門が仮に支配することになりました。

この取り扱いについては当日采女が申し聞かされたことです。

逼塞という処分の取り扱いは閉門より軽い処分ですが、遠慮よりは重い処分です。そのようにご承知ください。恐惶謹言　七月十七日　横田十右衛門様　栃屋半右衛門　片山弥五右衛門様」

ただし、右両人が御質手形流しを申し付けられた一件により町や在所が騒ぎ立ったため、去る十四日に右両人並びに同役の雨森儀右衛門の三人とも遠慮を申し付けられた。儀右衛門は月番のため御目通りの御用は勤めるよう申し渡され、御勝手向の用事に支障がないよう千本藤左衛門に加役が申し付けられた。

一、七月二十五日、雨森儀右衛門も同様に役職を取り上げられ、拝領知のうち五十石を召し上げられ、大御番組に申し付けられ逼塞を申し付けられる。

ただし、この間に両人の後任等がそれぞれ申し付けられたため。

一、八月十二日、右三人とも逼塞を御免となる。

一、正徳元年辰年六月三日、田中条左衛門に不審の件があり、御吟味中につき逼塞を申し付けられる。しかし以前から閉門・遠慮の取り扱いの格式はあったが、逼塞の格式がない。その上、条左衛門が番頭毛受孫兵衛まで申したことには、閉門同様にしたいと申したため。

1. In the eighth month of Kanpō 2 (1742), Year of the Dog, the court physician Hosoi Gen'yō had his stipend confiscated, was assigned to clerical duties, and placed under house confinement.

1. On the 16th day of the seventh month of Kyōhō 17 (1732), Year of the Rat, magistrates Eguchi Jirōbei and Sakai Rokurōemon were placed under house confinement. At this time, Fukui inspector Tochinya Han'emon sent a letter to the Matsuoka inspector, which is recorded in the Matsuoka official records as follows:

"I write to inform you. Yesterday on the 16th, Lord Inaba Uneme announced at his residence that Eguchi Jirōbei and Sakai Rokurōemon, who had previously been under house restraint, would now have their positions revoked, fifty koku each confiscated from their stipends, be assigned to the ōban guard unit, and placed under house confinement. This was to be announced to both men at the next meeting, and we have done so with fellow officials present. I inform you of this matter. The subordinates of both men will be temporarily supervised by Senbon Tōzaemon.

This handling was announced by Uneme on that day.

However, because the incident where these two men were ordered to circulate pledge documents caused unrest in the towns and countryside, on the 14th day, these two men along with their colleague Amemori Giemon were all ordered into house restraint. Since Giemon was the monthly duty officer, he was told to continue his audience duties, and Senbon Tōzaemon was given additional duties to ensure financial administration was not disrupted.

1. On the 25th day of the seventh month, Amemori Giemon similarly had his position revoked, fifty koku confiscated from his stipend, was assigned to the ōban guard unit, and placed under house confinement.

This was because successors for both men had been appointed during this period.

1. On the 12th day of the eighth month, all three men were pardoned from house confinement.

1. On the 3rd day of the sixth month of Shōtoku 1 (1711), Year of the Dragon, Tanaka Jōzaemon was placed under house confinement due to suspicious matters while under investigation. However, while there were established protocols for house arrest and house restraint, there was no established protocol for house confinement. Moreover, Jōzaemon had told his superior Menju Magobei that he wished to be treated the same as house arrest.
