竹八はなかなか商売上手で、儲かることを知り、もはや金もたくさん儲け、素晴らしいことに、ひとえに伊勢大神宮の御陰だと思い、虎に愛されては銭も儲けの話はさておき、そのところであるが、何事もなく、人にも自分にも怪我もせず、お礼のために日本橋から伊勢まで百日の日参を、一日も怠ることなく

Takehachi was quite a shrewd businessman and, knowing how to make profit, had already earned a great deal of money. Magnificently, thinking this was entirely due to the grace of Ise Daijingū, and being beloved by the tiger, putting aside talk of earning money, though this was the situation, without any incident, with no injury to others or himself, as thanks he made daily pilgrimages from Nihonbashi to Ise for a hundred days, without missing a single day
