この書は、人の家での日常に用いる重要な作法・事柄八十箇条を集め、次にいろは順の字引（節用集）、次に万物絵本（訓蒙図彙）を収録する。この絵本は、上は日・月・星辰から、下は鳥獣・魚・虫の細かいものまで、国々の山川・人物・生き物・草木、その他天地の間にあらゆる物をことごとく集めて載せ、終わりに年中行事一切・参詣のこと、その他月日に関わることを残らず集めた。まことに節用の宝である。
