一菊の本 輪（りん）を用ゆべからず。枝（えだ）花をとり。筒（つゝ）に
人肌（ひとはた）の湯（ゆ）を口まで一はい入。右の菊（きく）を輪（りん）
まで沈（しづ）むやうに漬（つけ）て。戸棚（とたな）へ入。よく戸（と）
をしめをき。此 湯（ゆ）さめて後（のち）湯（ゆ）を捨（すて）て水

**水仙のない時期に水仙を生け花にする方法**
水仙の盛りの頃に、新鮮な水仙を畳の下に敷いておくとよい。いつまでもよく保存できる。水仙のない時期に畳の下から取り出し、生け花にする際に水を与えると花が生き返り、客人をもてなす際の一興となる。

**菊を春まで貯える方法**
菊の本輪（元の大きな花）は使わないこと。枝花を取り、筒に人肌のお湯を口いっぱいに入れ、その菊を輪（花首）まで沈むように漬けて、戸棚に入れ、しっかりと戸を閉めておく。このお湯が冷めた後、お湯を捨てて水に換えること。茎の下から腐りが入るので、取り出してよく見て、腐った部分を切り捨てること。
**椿の花が落ちない方法**
椿の花の蘂（しべ）の中に塩を少し入れておくとよい。木に咲いている花も、また切り花でも、花輪（花首）が落ちることがない。

**A Method for Displaying Narcissus Flowers When They Are Out of Season**
During the peak blooming season of narcissus, place fresh narcissus flowers beneath a tatami mat, and they will keep well for a long time. When narcissus are out of season, take them out from under the tatami mat; upon giving them water for a flower arrangement, the flowers will revive and come back to life — providing a delightful surprise for guests.

**A Method for Preserving Chrysanthemums Until Spring**
Do not use the main large blooms of the chrysanthemum. Take branch flowers instead, fill a tube to the brim with water warmed to body temperature, and submerge the chrysanthemums up to the flower heads. Place this in a cupboard and close the door tightly. After the warm water cools, discard it and replace it with fresh water. Rot tends to enter from the base of the stem, so take the flowers out, inspect them carefully, and cut away and discard any rotted portions.
**A Method for Preventing Camellia Flowers from Falling**
Place a small amount of salt into the center of the stamens of camellia flowers. Whether the flowers are still on the tree or are cut flowers, the flower heads will not fall off.
