現代語訳
駿州安倍川の
川上に清右衛門という
者がいて、年々
江戸へ茶商いに
やって来る。商売上手な人柄で
不足もないけれども老舗の
江戸商いなので息子の
清兵衛に譲り、問屋向きは
言うまでもなく少しの得意先
にも新茶一袋ずつ
数年の交渉なので
抜け目なく言いつけ支度
させて下さった。

In Suruga Province, upstream along the Abe River,
there lived a man named Seiemon who
came to Edo every year
to trade in tea.
He was skilled in business
and though he lacked nothing, being an established
Edo merchant, he passed the business to his son
Seibie. For wholesale dealings,
needless to say, and even for small customers,
he would provide one bag of new tea each.
Having built relationships over many years,
he carefully instructed his son and had him
prepare everything without oversight.
