人はあるいは熱皮の名に泥んで、熱皮は偏に解熱の奇品なりと誤り認め、焮腫熱・疫熱を論ぜず、妄用してその害あることを疑わず。これは薬性に通ぜざるの弊のみ。
ハイ列分離術の書に載す、熱皮の質は膠・脂・土・鉄の四つの者が妙合したる者なりと。蓋し凝体・弛緩・血液稀釈の熱病には功その右に出る者なし。然れども揮発走竄の薬とは自ら氷炭の別あり。故に焮腫熱・疫熱には得て用い易からず。同志の輩、妄用して罪を熱皮に帰することなかれ。

Some people are misled by the name "fever bark" and erroneously believe that cinchona bark is exclusively a miraculous substance for resolving fever. They do not consider inflammatory swelling fever or epidemic fever, and use it recklessly without doubting that it causes harm. This is merely the fault of not understanding medicinal properties.
It is recorded in books on chemical separation techniques that the substance of cinchona bark is a wonderful combination of four elements: gum, fat, earth, and iron. Indeed, for febrile diseases with solid masses, relaxation, and diluted blood, nothing surpasses its efficacy. However, it naturally differs from volatile and dispersing medicines as much as ice differs from coal. Therefore, it cannot easily be used for inflammatory swelling fever or epidemic fever. Let colleagues not use it recklessly and then blame the cinchona bark for the consequences.
