水仙花（すいせんか）

葉は蒲に似ている。花の形は金盞銀台に例えられる。花びらは六葉で、台は三角形で長い。茎は河骨に似ている。また花は先端に薄絹の袋に包まれており、袋がほどけて花が開く。花の色は白っぽく少し薄黄色である。中の一つの盞に三つの玉があり、一盞三玉ともに黄うこん色である。八月から翌年の二、三月まで花がある。秋冬の水仙は花が葉の中段にあり、また春の水仙花は葉の高さに比べて全体的に草花はこれに順じて、夏秋の草花は丈が長く、冬春の草花は丈が短い。四季の草花は年中絶えることがない。しかしながら秋冬の草花は冬気を凌ぎかねて春を待たずにいるところへ、水仙が薄絹の袋より金盞銀台を出し、これが春を待たずに春の草花が来るのに一盞をもって引き合わせる縁を結びつなぐ花である。

○楊誠斎が言うには「世間で水仙を金盞銀台とするのは、おそらく単葉のもので中に一つの酒盞があり、深黄で金色だからである。千葉のものは真の水仙である」と。

○山谷が言うには「一名を仙骨とする。水仙花は普通の花ではなく、仙人の骨の象があるゆえに仙骨という」と。

△描き方の技法：花はゴフン（胡粉）で中筋を同じように描き、中筋の両脇を白緑でぼかしをつけ、匂い皿に匂いの玉はゴフン、底を白緑でぼかす。また全体の花へは緑青にゴフンを加えてかける。中の玉と皿とも石黄をかける。台葉と軸とは四番六青、濃い草の汁でぼかし、石黄をかける。花を包む袋はゴフン塗り、薄黄土をかけ、朱墨でぼかし散らしかけ、筋を描き、朱墨で葉の根巻きはゴフン、摺切をかける。草の汁で筋を描く。

Narcissus (Suisen-ka)

The leaves resemble cattails. The flower shape is likened to "golden cup, silver platform" (kin-san gin-dai). The petals are six-fold, and the platform is triangular and long. The stem resembles yellow pond lily (kōhone). The flowers are wrapped in a thin silk-like bag at the tip, and the flower opens when the bag unfolds. The flower color is whitish with a slight pale yellow tint. In the center cup there are three orbs, and both the cup and three orbs are turmeric yellow. Flowers bloom from August until February or March of the following year. In autumn and winter narcissus, the flowers are positioned in the middle section of the leaves. Also, spring narcissus flowers, compared to the height of the leaves, generally follow the pattern that summer and autumn flowering plants have long stems, while winter and spring flowering plants have short stems. Four-season flowering plants continue throughout the year without interruption. However, while autumn and winter flowering plants struggle against the winter cold and wait for spring, the narcissus emerges from its thin silk bag with its golden cup and silver platform, not waiting for spring, and serves as a flower that creates connections and links with the spring flowers that are to come, bringing them together with its single cup.

○ Yang Chengzhai said: "The world calls narcissus 'golden cup, silver platform' because the single-petaled variety has one wine cup in the center, deep yellow and golden in color. The thousand-petaled variety is the true narcissus."

○ Shangu said: "One name is 'immortal bone' (senkotsu). Narcissus flowers are not ordinary flowers but have the appearance of immortal bones, hence they are called senkotsu."

△ Painting technique: For flowers, use gofun (white pigment) for the central lines in the same way, shade both sides of the central lines with white-green, for the fragrant cup, use gofun for the fragrant orbs, and shade the bottom with white-green. Also, for the entire flower, apply rokushō (verdigris) mixed with gofun. Apply ōō (yellow pigment) to both the central orbs and cup. For the platform leaves and axis, use light grass juice with fourth-grade sixth blue for shading, then apply ōō. For the bag wrapping the flower, apply gofun coating, then light yellow earth, apply scattered shading with vermillion ink, draw lines with vermillion ink. For the leaf base wrapping, use gofun and surikiri application. Draw lines with grass juice.
