牡丹花（ぼたんか）《割書：三月中に花咲く》
花に大白・大紅があり、紫・薄紫があり、薄紅・底紅・口紅その他万々ある。牡丹は総体を九品に分けて見るべきである。九品というのは、一位・二形・三色・四重・五実・六蕊・七葩・八葉・九木である。一に位というのに四等の分がある。一位は未見、二位・三位を良しとする。四位は有り触れたものとされる。二に形というのに五様ある。富貴・艶麗・厳格・乱雑・枯槁である。富貴・艶麗を良しとする。三に色に二種ある。咲き出しで赤みがかった様なのは珠玉咲である。青みがかった様なのは碧玉咲である。珠玉咲は艶があって、碧玉咲は花に艶がない。またこれに違うものもあるであろう。酔いがありしみがある。酔いしみがあるのは上花の他なるであろう。四に重は五つ花弁から十五花弁に至って一重とする。二十花弁から四十花弁までを八重とする。四十五花弁から百花弁までを千重とする。百花弁の外は万重とする。八重・千重を良しとする。五に実に形容・大小・高下・赤白がある。白に黄白・銀白・青白がある。赤に薄赤・木瓜色・濃赤・薄紫・濃紫・黒色がある。形に瓶子がある。実の頭が五つに割れ、七つに割れるのがある。白は銀白、紅は濃いのがある。小瓶子を良しとする。芥子実・鈴実ともいう。六に蕊は

The flowers come in large white and large red varieties, with purple, light purple, light red, deep red, and lip red, among countless other varieties. Peonies should be evaluated by dividing their overall characteristics into nine categories. The nine categories are: first - rank, second - form, third - color, fourth - layering, fifth - pistil, sixth - stamen, seventh - petals, eighth - leaves, ninth - stem. Jia Dan's Flower Manual says: Peonies are called "tree peonies" by the Chinese. Ou Gong's Peony Manual contains over ninety varieties. Also, Yi Zhou presented nineteen varieties as tribute. Nowadays there are even more varieties. Su Shi said: The method for viewing peonies should be in the morning. After noon, they open and spread. These flowers should be grafted by division in autumn, the ninth month. Transplanting should be done during blooming time. Shu Yuanyu wrote "Peony Rhapsody." Qiu Xuan wrote "Record of Peony Glory and Disgrace."

The emperor said, "These are supernatural flowers and trees," and bestowed them upon Yang Guozhong.
