私は若い頃から博識の学を身に負い、年が耳順（六十歳）を過ぎても、研究を怠ることはなかった。近頃、那賀山国手（名医）を得たが、［疫病が］益々多くなり、殆ど人をして死すべしの嘆きを抱かせるものがある。国手はかつて『麻疹要論』を著し、その子弟らが相談してこれを出版した。

Preface to the Essential Treatise on Measles
From my youth I have carried the burden of extensive learning, and even after passing the age of sixty, I have never ceased my investigations. Recently, I have come to know the skilled physician Nagayama, but [epidemic diseases] have become increasingly prevalent, almost causing people to lament that death seems inevitable. This master physician once wrote the "Essential Treatise on Measles," and his disciples consulted together to publish it.
