現代語訳
旅客が宿を求め、宿の主人が食事を賄う場合、一回り（一巡）七日分の食料として一人前金百疋、湯料として銀二匁ずつを定額とする。自分で賄おうとするなら、食料その他の品物を帳面に記しておいてくれる家がある。かまど、膳棚、水桶の類は座敷ごとに備え付けてあって不便はない。かけひに水を引いて自由に使える。特に清水である。供人を連れてこない人で、自分で賄いをしようとすれば、雇い女がいて朝に来て夕方に帰る。食事の支度に慣れていて、まじめに仕えること主人のようである。年を重ねた婦人でなければこの雇いはしない。夜具や雑器の類は損料（レンタル料）で主人から借りる。遊芸の道具も不便はない。座敷料は主人から求めない。滞在日数や旅客の多少によって心遣いをするべきである。

▲村中の人々がすべて誠実なのは、山村で一つの世界を成していて、軽薄で華美なものに心を奪われないからであろう。熱海へ湯治といえば奢侈のようで遊山事と聞こえるけれども、定まった雑費は左に記したとおりなので、病気のある人は医療費を省いて、この温泉に浴して長寿を楽しむべきである。この温泉はその名が四方に伝わるといっても、効能を詳しく知らない人が多いので、出版して広く世に示そうとするのは編者の老婆心である。

When travelers seek lodging and the innkeeper provides meals, the standard rate is 100 hiki of gold per person for seven days of food during one stay, plus 2 monme of silver each as bathing fees. For those who wish to prepare their own meals, there are establishments that keep a record of food and various goods in account books. Stoves, meal trays and shelves, water buckets and the like are provided in each room, causing no inconvenience. Water is drawn through bamboo pipes for free use, and it is especially pure spring water. For those who do not bring servants and wish to prepare their own meals, there are hired women who come in the morning and return in the evening. They are experienced in preparing meals and serve faithfully as if they were the master's own. Only mature women are employed for this work. Bedding and miscellaneous utensils can be rented from the innkeeper for a usage fee. Entertainment equipment is also readily available. Room charges are not demanded by the innkeeper. One should show consideration according to the length of stay and the number of travelers.
▲From Atami to Odawara (7 ri), one palanquin costs 1 kan 100 dō as the standard rate. One porter costs half of this.
▲The fact that all the villagers are honest is probably because they form their own world in this mountain village and are not swayed by frivolous or luxurious things. While a hot spring cure at Atami may sound like extravagance and pleasure-seeking, since the fixed miscellaneous expenses are as recorded below, people with illnesses should save on medical expenses and enjoy longevity by bathing in these hot springs. Although the fame of these hot springs has spread in all directions, many people do not know their efficacy in detail, so publishing this to inform the general public is the editor's well-meaning concern.
