は、底本の第二行目「きたのかたに」とある箇所が、御物本には「北方の」とあり、「の」の上に重ねて「に」と書かれていることを示し、

は、底本の第十四行目「いつかこたかき」とある箇所が、横山本には「いつこかたかき」とあり、「こ」と「か」との位置を反転して、「いつかこたかき」と読むべき符号があることを示し、また、

一 異文が甚だ多くて、それに該当する底本の本文と同一のページに収まらない場合には、その残部のみを各帖の末尾に一括して収め、その所在ページ数を附記した。例えば、
［続二九ページ］ （桐壺二二・二三・二四・二七ページ）
は、第二二・二三・二四・二七ページに収まらない異文を、第二九ページに一括して収めることを示す。
右のような異文の残部を収めたページには、その残部がいかなるページから続くものであるかを附記した。例えば、

［二四ページより］ ［二七ページより］ （桐壺二九ページ）
は、第二九ページに収められた異文が、それぞれ第二二・二三・二四・二七ページから続くものであることを示す。

1. When marking variant readings, when special explanation is required, parentheses are set below that location to provide explanation. For example:
➋kita no kata ni──North direction ni (ni written over no) Gyo (Yomogiu, page 524)
indicates that the location reading "kita no kata ni" in line 2 of the base text reads "North direction no" in the Gyobutsu text, with "ni" written over "no."
⓮itsuka ko takaki──itsuko ka (ko and ka have reversal marks) takaki Yoko (Usugumo, page 607)
indicates that the location reading "itsuka ko takaki" in line 14 of the base text reads "itsuko ka takaki" in the Yokoyama text, with marks indicating that the positions of "ko" and "ka" should be reversed to read "itsuka ko takaki." Also:
❸kikayofu to mōsu──kikayofu yo to nan ( ｜◦ ◦ ) mōsu te (te was interpolated then crossed out) Gyo (Yūgao, page 105)
indicates that the location reading "kikayofu to mōsu" in line 3 of the base text reads "kikayofu to mōsu te" in the Gyobutsu text, with "nan" interpolated below "to," and the final "te" was first interpolated and then crossed out.
1. When variant readings are extremely numerous and cannot fit on the same page as the corresponding main text of the base text, only the remainder is collected at the end of each chapter, with the page number noted. For example:
[Continued on page 29] (Kiritsubo pages 22, 23, 24, 27)
indicates that variant readings that do not fit on pages 22, 23, 24, and 27 are collected together on page 29.
For pages containing such remainders of variant readings, notes indicate from which pages these remainders continue. For example:

[From page 24] [From page 27] (Kiritsubo page 29)
indicates that the variant readings collected on page 29 continue from pages 22, 23, 24, and 27 respectively.
