Omimaro was eventually appointed to the positions of Jingihaku (Head of the Office of Divinities), Shōshiinojō (Senior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade), Sadaiben (Left Major Controller), and Chūnagon (Middle Counselor). Hiramaro; Toyomune; Yoshizane [whose official posts and court ranks over two generations are unclear]. Kanenori (兼延), Jingisuke, Jōjō (Senior Attendant), Jugoinoge. It is recorded with the utmost reverence that Emperor Ichijō personally wrote out and bestowed the character "兼" (kane). This was because the character is the right-hand element (tsukuri) of the character "鎌" (kama, as in Kamatari). Perhaps for this reason, the character "兼" came thereafter to be invariably used in the personal names of this lineage.
