現代語訳
【右丁】
御所においても、好色がちな女房たちは、色めいてほのめかし、噂を立てたりしましたが、兼好はそのような甘い言葉を少しも好みませんでした。明け暮れただしっとりと落ち着いたようすで、きわめてつつましやかに振る舞っておりました。
後醍醐天皇の御代の始めにあたり、法皇〔後宇多〕が世の政をお執りになっていた時、兼好は仕えて滝口の宿直（とのい）を勤めておりました。

ある折、渡殿（わたどの）の方からたいへん上品な女房が、格別につやつやとした美しい衣を身にまとい、目もとや顔立ちが美しく、髪はゆらゆらと長く流れ、見た目も並外れて気品があったので、思わず目が止まって見送りました。傍らにいた人に尋ねたところ、「中宮の御使いとして参った方でございます」とだけ答えたのを、詳しく尋ねるのも遠慮がちで、それ以上のことは……

...even at the Retired Emperor's palace, women of a flirtatious nature would make suggestive hints and spread rumors about him. Yet Kenkō was not in the least drawn to such sweet words. Day and night, he maintained a quiet, composed demeanor, and conducted himself with the utmost propriety and reserve.
At the beginning of the reign of Emperor Go-Daigo, when the Retired Emperor [Go-Uda] was overseeing the affairs of government, Kenkō served at court, standing night watch as a Takiguchi guard.
