　方もなき有様目を懸たし舌を巻けるか儘に
　印つけて置たれは此所迄高水したる事を
　後世につ伝【傳】へん事を欲する儘に爰にしるしぬ
　　　　折しも夏の事なりけれは
早乙女もみな休らふや子安堂
心して束ねよ雨の早苗とり
庵冷し苗代時【なわしろどき＝苗代に水を引いて種もみを蒔くのに適した時節。】の嚢を着て

大地震発するに此方今洪水の大難に至るまての
手続を此處迄順にせんか為に巨細の事共を省略し
亦己の身の上の事のみをしるせしに似たれ共一国【國】の
変なれは広太【「大」とあるところ。】にして眼前に其子細綴る事不能【あたわず】
因て後巻の報を左に記事す
後編三の巻には
　地水火三災の町在山里村名人民牛馬死ての数
　耕地荒等都ての変災諸方御領分御取調
　有之し事共を巨細にしるす
　諸方　御領主様方御　仁徳御救てありかたき
　事ともを記事す　　　　

現代語訳

【右丁】
言葉では表現できないような有様に目を見張り、舌を巻くばかりの状況を記録として残しておけば、ここまで洪水が達したことを後世に伝えることができるだろうと思い、ここに記すものである。

早乙女もみな休らうや子安堂

庵涼し苗代時の嚢を着て

【左丁】
大地震が発生してからこの度の洪水の大災害に至るまでの経過を、ここまで順序立てて記すために、詳細な事柄は省略し、また自分自身の身の上のことのみを記したように見えるかもしれないが、一国の変事であるので範囲が広大で、目の前のその詳細をすべて綴ることは不可能である。

よって後の巻の予告を以下に記す。

後編第三巻には
　地震・洪水・火災の三災における町・在郷・山里・村の名前、人民・牛馬の死者数、
　耕地の荒廃等、すべての災変について諸方面の御領分での御調査が
　行われたことを詳細に記す
　諸方面の御領主様方の御仁徳による御救済のありがたい
　事柄を記録する

From the occurrence of the great earthquake to this great flood disaster, in order to record the sequence of events up to this point in order, I have omitted detailed matters and may appear to have written only about my own personal circumstances. However, since this was a national calamity of vast scope, it is impossible to document all the details that unfolded before our eyes.
