唐（たう）の開元（かいげん）中／張説文章博士（ちやうえつぶんしやうのはかせ）の頭（かしら）にて礼（れい）せらる。諸学者（しよがくしや）を召（めし）て酒宴（しゆえん）を給（たま）はり勅（ちよく）にて詩（し）を作（つく）る
韻（ゐん）を分（わか）ち林（りん）の字（じ）を得（え）たり東壁（とうへき）の二星（じせい）は書籍（しよじやく）を司（つかさど）る図書（しよもつ）の府（ふ）とは集（あつま）る処／魏（ぎ）の曹子建（さうしけん）
西園（さいえん）に翰墨（がくしや）を林集（おほくあつめ）しことあり諸国（しよこく）の詩（し）をあつめ政（まつりごと）の善悪（ぜんあく）を改（あらた）め易（えき）を講（かう）じ諸有司（しよやくにん）
の勤方（つとめかた）天心（てんしん）にかなふやいなやを見る和羹（くはかう）は尚書（しやうしよ）説命（えつめい）の文（ふん）を取（とり）天下（てんか）を料理（れうり）するにたとへ不才（ふさい）
にて及（およば）ぬことを勤（つとむ）るは位（くらゐ）をぬすむにあたるを云みだりに御／恩（おん）の酒（さけ）に酔（ゑい）音曲（おんぎよく）に情（じやう）の有（あり）たけを
つくすは天子（てんし）聞（きゝ）わけて給れと也／鍾子期（しようしき）よく音（おん）を弁（べん）ぜしが死（し）して伯牙（はくが）琴（きん）を破（やぶ）り今（いま）天下（てんか）

恩勅により麗正殿書院にて宴を賜る　応制にて「林」の字を得る　張説

東壁は図書の府、西園は翰墨の林。詩を誦して国政を聞き、易を講じて天心を見る。
位は和羹の重きを窃み、恩は酒に酔うことの深きを叨る。載ち春興の曲を歌い、情尽くすは知音のためなり。

唐の開元年間、張説は文章博士の長として礼遇された。諸学者を召して酒宴を賜り、勅命により詩を作る際、韻を分けて「林」の字を得た。東壁の二星は書籍を司る図書の府とは書物が集まる処である。魏の曹子建が西園に学者を多く集めたことがあった。諸国の詩を集めて政治の善悪を改め、易を講じて諸役人の勤めぶりが天心にかなうかどうかを見る。和羹は『尚書』説命の文を取り、天下を料理するに例えて、不才で及ばないことを勤めるのは位を盗むに当たることを言う。みだりに御恩の酒に酔い、音曲に情の限りを尽くすのは天子が聞き分けて下さることを願ってのことである。鍾子期がよく音を弁じたが死んで、伯牙が琴を破り、今天下に音を知る者なしとして一生弾かなかった故事がある。ここは天子が聞き分けて下さることを願う心である。

The eastern wall is a repository of books, the western garden is a forest of scholars and ink. Reciting poetry to hear of state affairs, lecturing on the I Ching to perceive the celestial mind.
My position steals the weight of harmonious governance, imperial grace indulges deeply in wine's intoxication. Thus singing the song of spring's delight, exhausting all emotion is for the sake of one who understands.

During the Kaigen era of Tang, Zhang Yue was honored as the head of literary scholars. Summoning various scholars for a wine banquet bestowed by imperial grace, when composing poetry by imperial command, the rhymes were distributed and he obtained the character "Lin." The two stars of the eastern wall govern books - the repository of books is where writings gather. Wei's Cao Zijian once gathered many scholars in the western garden. Collecting poems from various provinces to reform the good and evil of government, lecturing on the I Ching to see whether the duties of various officials accord with the celestial mind. "Harmonious soup" takes from the text of Yue Ming in the Book of Documents, likening governing the realm to cooking - serving in matters beyond one's abilities is like stealing one's position. Becoming intoxicated by imperial grace's wine and exhausting all emotion in music is done hoping the Son of Heaven will listen with understanding. There is a historical tale where Zhong Ziqi could distinguish musical tones well, but when he died, Boya broke his qin, saying there was no one left in the world who understood music, and never played again for the rest of his life. Here the sentiment is hoping the Son of Heaven will listen with understanding.
